Why is there so much hate and disrespect towards Devin Gardner?

Jason Whitlock still thinks Devin Gardner can't face adversity. He had the most adversity to face of ANY quarterback in big-time college football!

He takes things hard and he takes things professionally, especially losing. He hung his head after losing, especially the close games, where he's going hard for his team, trying to will his team to victory. He blamed himself for the plays that cost his team the game.
When he was being criticized for how poorly he was supposedly playing, he just virtually ignored the heat being thrown his direction. He said, "Nobody understands that we're playing for each other" and I couldn't agree with him more. He's trying to put the team before himself, and if that means running for a first down, he'll do it. If it means throwing a Hail Mary for  touchdown, he'll do it, whether it results in a TD or not. He'll give everything he has. Not many people can say that. Not even JaDeveon Clowney or Jameis Winston can say that.

He took a beating this season, behind a tornado-struck offensive line, running for his life, taking 36 sacks (including 14 against MSU and Nebraska combined) as well as not having any running game around him, injuring his foot in what was the game of his career against the Buckeyes.(Passer Stat line: 32-45, 451 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT) You don't see guys respond as well as Gardner did in his final game this past season. How do you respond better than that?

With all that said, he had bad games this past year, sure. But he bounced back. When he had the bad stretch in the beginning of the year, he still had good games against Minnesota and Notre Dame, throwing for a combined 544 yards, 6 total touchdowns, and just one interception.

So many people are saying, "It's time for Shane Morris. Devin Gardner can't even throw a ball", which couldn't be further from the truth. How does he complete so many deep passes (or even get the ball far enough to do so)? He has to THROW THE BALL.
Others say "Devin Gardner sucks". That is also far from the truth. His team around him sucked. You don't suck if you can throw for nearly 3,000 yards in a season of college football. That's a mark that few will ever break. In fact, he would have been the first since Chad Henne to do it. He threw only one more interception over the entire season than Jameis Winston. Winston has a complete team around him. Gardner does not. So if he can be equally effective in not turning the ball over...

One thing to note:
He has had to rehab his foot injury and he's already back at full strength. He's competing for the job. He knows his expectations and what it takes. He can do everything that the critics and naysayers say he can't do.
